Four decades of painting the British and Venetian light
Based in Brighton, Cecil Rice has spent more than forty years painting the British landscape and coast, as well as the distinctive light and architecture of Venice. Central to his work is an enduring interest in the changing effects of light, particularly where it meets water. Through colour, tone and expressive brushwork, his paintings seek to convey the atmosphere and individual character of each place.

Cecil Rice offers tailored artistic instruction for all levels, sharing techniques in watercolor and other media. He provides workshops and painting demos for art groups across the UK and leads painting holidays, most notably, with Alpha painting Holidays. His regular Art classes are held throughout the school year on Mondays and Tuesdays, at Hurstpierpoint and on Zoom.
